Dating to the earlier part of the 20th century, circa 1910, this is an original and rare pair of machinist chairs by TAN SAD. Recently reclaimed from a retired mill in Scotland, the chairs had to be personally removed from the mill, where they were specifically bolted to the floor. The chairs are significant in their design, enabling one to easily move from left to right. These were located near to a production line in the mill
The chairs are made with a heavy cast iron base and complementary ‘hardened rubber’ seats and back supports. Once bolted to a floor, the chairs are ‘free moving’ and include an adjustable back support. Simply twist the plastic-Black knob to set ones desired position. One can also adjust the height by simply turning the chair with ones hand. This is an unusual pair of chairs and ones that are not seen in the market very often…
Given the style of these chairs, we feel they would be awesome in a barbers shop or even a tattoo shop!
We are offering these pieces in ‘as found’ condition, therefore there is some natural wear and tear. There are some surface scuffs and scars to the surface and some chipping in areas to the paint. The chairs are a little tatty in places and the metal has some rusty areas. Structurally the chairs are great, just some weathered areas here and there. Having looked at the reverse, we are not sure if there is a cog missing from the rear of the back rests (as pictured). If so, they don’t tend to impact ones posture when seated. Please do study the photos to help with your analysis as it would be hard to highlight all imperfections…
Please note : These chairs will need to be bolted to an adequate surface to take the weight of an individual. One will note in our pictures that we have naively bolted the chairs to a scaffold board. Please feel free to ask questions, as these are super cool chairs!
Please note : Sizes are approx for one chair, they do differ slightly in size
Condition : Structurally good, some surface marks and scratches, some paint chipping, a weathered patina to the surface in areas, some rusty areas, tatty in places, potentially a cog missing from the backrests?
Postage : Heavy Item £25 or local collection
