Product Description

A rare double sided enamel sign…

Dating to the early part of the 20th century, circa 1900s, this is an authentic example of this rare and collectable sign. Originally placed in the back of a wooden chair, the sign is double sided with the grocery chopper in mind. The wooden chairs were usually placed within a grocery store to allow customers to have a rest, and thus still capture the customers’ eye with the timely advertising…

This particular example has different adverts on each side. The sign has retained some good original branding and paint work, and left a superb patina. This is how we like our signs… a little rusty, a little beaten up and with buckets of character… This one no doubt has a great story…

We are offering this piece in ‘as found’ condition, therefore there is natural wear and tear. There are some surface scratches and scars, some rusty areas, some chipping to the enamel and it is a little tatty and dirty in places. That said, structurally the sign is in great original condition. Again, we simply feel this adds to the look and its authenticity. Please study all the photos, as it would be difficult to highlight all of the imperfections…
