Although we are unsure of the exact age of this piece, we understand from the previous owner that it dates to the latter part of the 20th century, circa 1970s. Standing around 5 feet tall, this ‘crash test dummy’ was part of a display from Brands Hatch race track, in England
The dummy is hand made in a form of rubberised foam (so imagine a sponge, but it’s relatively harder when touched). In a ‘Banana Yellow colour’, the dummy is complemented with a ‘dirty surface patina’ in areas and Black and White ‘safety warning badges’. The actual dirty areas have purposefully been added into the sponge material, to essentially make it look like the dude had been used (we think).
We are offering this piece in ‘as found’ condition, therefore there is some natural wear and tear. The dummy is structurally good and perfectly free stands on its circular base. The dirty surface patina is purposely added, yet incremental to this, there are surface scuffs and abrasions across the piece and some losses in areas. There are some notable areas that look like they have previously been damaged and maybe re-applied (the head and the arms), yet although this doesn’t impact the structure of the dummy, we actually think it simply adds to its charm and authenticity. Please do study the photos to help with your analysis as it would be hard to highlight all imperfections…
This is a rare collectable piece for the automobilia collector or as an alternative piece of decor…
