Although we are unsure of the exact age of this piece, we believe it would date from the mid 20th century onwards (potentially the latter part). We actually have no provenance on this piece at all, therefore we are honest in our approach when describing it. Hand made in clay, then hand painted – the head is cleverly crafted to depict what we think is some form of fictional warrior. The chap has a hat (which is removable), and the detailing to this piece we consider a piece of art. A wire cage to the front, a leather base with studs and then a metal visor…
The head is so cleverly made and decorated with great skill. The eyes look like marbles, therefore of glass nature. The chap also have a neck piece with similar materials to that of the hat, yet this is permanently attached to the head. We like with him with or without the hat on, and it certainly gives a different dimension when viewing. A cool piece of decor for maybe a move fan, or maybe for the reenactment fan too!
We are offering this piece in ‘as found’ condition, therefore there is natural wear and tear. There are some small surface scuffs and abrasions across the piece, along with paint chipping and some tatty areas. On the back of his head shows some scars from a previous knock, yet it isn’t noticeable until closely viewed (please see photos). This is a heavy piece, and we feel the current condition is charming and authentic. Please do study the photos to help with your analysis as it would be hard to highlight all imperfections…
