Product Description

A beautiful original cello chair…

Dating to the latter part of the 19th century, circa 1890s, this is an original Victorian chair with an authentic patina. Standing on a brass ‘three-legged’ frame, the chair is beautifully topped with a cracked Green leather seat (in a British racing Green colour)…

Made by C. H. Hare and of English origin, the chair would have been used to support a musician playing the cello and/or the piano. You’ll note as pictured the makers mark stamped on the side of the chair in brass

The chair is offered for restoration purposes, yet the chair is currently structurally good with just aesthetics that may need some restoration. We personally love its current condition, as it shows wear and tear and assume it has some story to tell. The patina to the brass is wonderful, and the crackles to the Green leather seat give this a great look. With a splattering of rust and some tatty areas, the chair is ideal for display or still even functional. The swivel functionality works perfect in a 360 spin…

We are offering this piece in ‘as found’ condition, therefore there is natural wear and tear. The chair is great structurally and can still be used functionally. The overall condition is a little tatty with surface scuffs and abrasions, and in general a weathered patina. We love how it looks as is, but this could also form a nice restoration project for someone. Please do study the photos to help with your analysis as it would be hard to highlight all imperfections…
